The play "Fences" by August Wilson uses baseball as a back drop to present many different themes that intertwine with one another in the life of former Negro Leagues baseball player, Troy Maxson, the main character. Fences is the play about blacks in the 1950's in his long project of writing about black experiences during every decade of the 20th century.
